Analyzing the Marginal Microleakage of Temporary Luting Agents with Fixed Provisional Restorations: An In Vitro Experimental Study
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: microleakage of temporary crowns composed of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and bisphenol A-glycidyl methacrylate (bis-GMA) resin, bonded with different temporary luting cement solutions. IntroductIonPartially edentulous patients are satisfactorily treated with fixed partial dentures, which help them in mastication, esthetics, and maintaining proper periodontal health. This requires higher reduction of dental tissues to gain esthetic results, for which millions of dental tubules are exposed. These changes may worsen periapical conditions and necrosis, due to trauma during tooth preparation, particularly if pathogens are present.1 In the interval between tooth preparation and permanent restoration cementation, the freshly prepared tooth is protected by a temporary crown. 2 This is necessary to mechanically secure the restoration in order to avoid microleakage, pulpal irritation, and chances of coming loose during mastication.Dental luting agents serve as a medium that connects the prepared tooth and the restoration by means of an attachment, which can be chemical, mechanical, micromechanical, or a combination of these.3 Microleakage is defined as the leakage of minute amounts of fluids, debris, and microorganisms through the microscopic space between a dental restoration or its cement and the adjacent surface of the cavity preparation.According to indexed literature research, there has been limited study on the marginal adaptation of provisional restoration with temporary luting agents. This study set out to evaluate the marginal 1,
