The effect of led-radiation on mucin release by snails of the Helix pomatia species

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The intensity of research and application of a natural biologically active substance — snail mucin — in pharmacology and cosmetology today allow us to talk about its large-scale industry needs in the near future. In this regard, it is relevant to develop productive methods for obtaining snail mucus, involving repeated extraction of secretions throughout the life of a mollusk without harming its physiological state. The paper proposes and investigates a method of non-traumatic effects on shellfish, which allows stimulating the secretory function of animals and increasing the productivity of mucin production. Using the example of Helix pomatia snails, using a developed and manufactured prototype device for producing mucin in laboratory conditions, the possibility of using pulsating LED radiation in the visible range of the spectrum as a non-traumatic effect that increases the productivity of secret production was confirmed. The most effective mode of light exposure has been established. The effectiveness of combining pulsating light exposure with another non — traumatic factor — the mechanical effect of the texture of the supporting surface on the mollusk’s leg is shown. Photos illustrating the main structural and executive components (housing, chassis cover, controller board, LED lamp, support plate with a ribbed surface) of an experimental device for producing mucin are presented.
