INVESTIGATION OF THE FEATURES OF COATING FORMATION OBTAINED BY ELECTROCONTACT WELDING OF A METAL WOVEN MESH TO BRONZE CuSn5Pb5Zn5

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Some features of the coating formation and its connection with the base metal during the restoration of bronze parts by electrocontact welding of a metal woven mesh are considered. It is shown that there are no defects such as pores, cracks, imperfections and discontinuities in the joint area of the coating made of a metal woven mesh made of steel USt 37-2 DIN 17100 with bronze CuSn5Pb5Zn5. It is shown that the junction zone is an intermediate layer with a width of less than 4.0 microns, formed as a result of the diffusion of elements that make up the joined metals. It was found that the impact strength of CuSn5Pb5Zn5 bronze samples coated with a metal woven mesh is 4.3 % higher than the impact strength of USt 37-2 DIN 17100 steel samples in the state of delivery. Computed tomography studies of the joint area of the coating showed that there were no defects in the form of cracks, delaminations, shells, or clusters of pores. At the same time, the coating thickness ranges from 0.31...0.34 mm, which confirms the data of metallographic studies. The results of tribotechnical tests showed that when rubbing against a counter-plate rod made of C45 DIN 17200 steel, the average coefficient of friction of the bronze in the state of delivery is 2.1 times lower than the average coefficient of friction of the coated sample obtained by electrocontact welding (ECW) of the CuSn5Pb5Zn5 bronze mesh. At the same time, the wear of the coated sample is 2.3 times lower than the wear of the CuSn5Pb5Zn5 bronze sample in the state of delivery when it is rubbed against the counter-plate rod made of GG 20 DIN 1691 cast iron.
