Abstract: Since the publication of the first code of ethics for physiotherapy in 1935, the profession's ethical evolution has undergone three periods: self-identity, patient-focused identity, and social identity. This latter period expands the social impact of the physical therapist, especially in the forensic context. Current physiotherapy codes of ethics reflect increasing attention to the social dimensions of ethical obligations, addressing the reduction of health disparities and injustices. This study aims to explore the ethical role of physical therapists as agents of justice, highlighting the importance of fulfilling their social duty supported by their technical-scientific knowledge. The analysis focuses on the evolution of physiotherapy codes of ethics and their connection to forensic practice, emphasizing the contribution of these professionals to justice. In conclusion, it was observed that ethical evolution in physiotherapy has led professionals to a greater involvement with issues of social justice. Forensic physical therapists play a crucial role as judicial experts, offering impartial evaluations based on technical-scientific knowledge. The regulation of the profession in Brazil, including specific resolutions by COFFITO, has consolidated the importance of forensic physiotherapy in the judicial system. Continuous updating and integration of physical therapists into professional associations and public policies are essential to strengthen their presence and impact in promoting justice and equity worldwide.
