The influence of cultural norms on adult education and lifelong learning: A comprehensive study
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study examines the impact of cultural norms on adult education and lifelong learning in the Philippines, India, Germany, the United States, and Brazil. Using data mining as the primary methodology, the research analyzes large-scale datasets from international educational reports, surveys, and government databases to explore how cultural factors such as gender roles, age expectations, and socio-economic status influence adult learners’ participation in education. The findings indicate that cultural barriers, including gender-based discrimination, age-related stereotypes, and socio-economic inequalities, continue to limit access to adult education, especially for marginalized groups. However, countries with proactive policies—such as Germany and the United States show higher engagement rates in adult learning, as they have implemented inclusive educational practices that reduce these cultural barriers and promote access for women, older adults, and economically disadvantaged groups. The study emphasizes the importance of culturally responsive educational systems that recognize local values while fostering lifelong learning as a tool for personal and societal growth. In conclusion, while cultural norms pose significant challenges to adult education, the study shows that overcoming these barriers is possible through data-driven policies and targeted approaches that ensure lifelong learning opportunities for all. This research provides insights into how educational systems can adapt to cultural contexts to improve participation in adult education worldwide.
