Abstract: Anatoly Grigoryan made a significant contribution to Armenian fine art of the twentieth century. His work is a unique bridge between traditional and modern. His paintings became a reflection of the historical and cultural identity of Armenia, transcending the boundaries of local art, they reached the level of universal human expression. The article talks about three paintings by Grigoryan, stored in the collection of the National Gallery of Armenia. Three works of the late period of the artist’s work are analyzed: two of which, written in the already recognizable “grigorian” style, are mystical and theatrical plots and the last one is a canvas, based on the tragedy of an entire people. It is interesting that the artist always manages to find and show the national in the universal and, conversely, always consider the national and traditional in the context of the universal and global.
