Abstract: Pesantren is a traditional Islamic educational institution that has emerged and evolved within the context of Islamic society, playing a vital role in the education of the community. These institutions are crucial to the educational landscape in Indonesia. Historically, Pesantren have engaged with their communities in intimate and meaningful ways, leading to the development of a flexible educational system that extends well beyond the walls of the Pesantren itself. One of the distinguishing features of Pesantren is their close connection to the surrounding community. They have significantly influenced education in Indonesia by introducing three distinct educational models: Salafiyah, Khalafiyah, and Comprehensive School. The Salafiyah Pesantren system primarily focuses on imparting Islamic knowledge through the study of classical texts, employing methods such as Bandongan, Sorogan, and memorization, with the goal of producing scholars who have a deep understanding of the classical Islamic intellectual tradition. Conversely, the Khalafiyah system integrates religious and general education, utilizing a variety of approaches—including lectures, discussions, and technology—to develop graduates who possess a well-rounded knowledge base in both religious and secular subjects. Finally, the Comprehensive system combines elements of both Salafiyah and Khalafiyah, striving to integrate religious knowledge, general education, practical skills, and entrepreneurship. The aim is to produce well-rounded graduates who not only excel in their understanding of religious teachings but also possess the skills necessary for success in the broader world.
