Abstract: : There are fundamental considerations in formulating a geometric camera model for linear array cameras. These considerations ensure you do not waste time resolving problems that could distort the computation of the model. The lessons learnt from developing the model for the NASA Advanced Solid-state Array Spectroradiometer (ASAS) has resulted in the identification of these critical considerations. To support the narrative, the ASAS camera system has been presented and tests from modelling results presented. Linear arrays remain the most practical imaging tool for airborne and spaceborne multispectral / hyperspectral applications. Airborne linear arrays are almost indispensable in the development of new spaceborne linear arrays systems. Precise geometric correction of airborne linear array imagery would rely on the integration of very accurate measurements of platform motion and attitude (GPS/INS), and the utilisation of one timing device within the imaging system.
