Perfil bacteriano de secreciones vaginales en pacientes en edad reproductiva en el laboratorio clínico particular Koch 2022, 2023

Abstract: The bacterial composition of vaginal secretions in women of childbearing age is closely related to the balance of bacteria that naturally inhabit the vaginal area. When this balance is disrupted, infections can occur that affect not only daily well-being but also reproductive health, given that the vaginal microbiota directly influences gynecological and reproductive health, and its disruption can promote infections such as bacterial vaginosis. For this reason, the overall objective was to determine the bacterial profile of pathogens isolated in vaginal secretions from patients of reproductive age who attended the Koch Private Clinical Laboratory during 2022 and 2023, in order to provide updated information on the most frequent etiological agents and strengthen microbiological diagnosis in the clinical setting. Therefore, the methodology used was a quantitative, cross-sectional, and retrospective study, using non-probabilistic convenience sampling, where existing results were analyzed according to previously defined inclusion criteria. The results revealed the presence of bacteria such as Gardnerella vaginalis, which was the most prevalent pathogen, followed by Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, as the main agents identified in vaginal secretions, confirming that bacterial vaginosis was the most prevalent infection in the study population. It was concluded that the predominant bacterial profile consisted of anaerobic bacteria, highlighting the need for continuous surveillance and updating of diagnostic protocols to improve clinical care for patients of reproductive age.
