Factors Influencing Farmers’ Satisfaction and Adoption of Mobile Phone Applications for Agricultural Purposes: a Systematic Review
Year: 2025
Type: review
Study design: Systematic Review
Abstract: This systematic literature review aims to investigate the effects of mobile phone applications on farmers’ behaviour and satisfaction. Following PRISMA guidelines, this review incorporated 21 papers into the analysis, obtained by searching papers published between 2010 and April 2024. This review demonstrates that the use of mobile phone applications significantly enhances agricultural practices by providing various important types of information, improving market access, and increasing productivity. Specific apps, such as ricult in Pakistan and e-Agri Finance in Malaysia, have improved profitability and operational productivity. Specific elements that directly determine satisfaction include usability and reliability, which consist of trustworthy appeal, and the composite nature of the beneficial quality, such as providing services like weather conditions and market analysis. Barriers include insufficient communication, technological support, and limited user-friendliness. Thus, the level of education, household income, and other socio-economic indicators can also influence the extent of application use and the level of satisfaction with them. Based on the literature review, the authors suggest that enhanced USE apps, improved extension services, enhanced technical support, stronger public-private partnerships (PPP), and addressing socio-economic factors may help optimize the use of mobile phone applications in agriculture.
