Assessing AI Progress Through Entropy A Multidimensional Study on China's Provincial-Level Competitiveness in Artificial Intelligence
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: With the advent of the fourth industrial revolution, the rapid development and application of artificial intelligence technology has become the core driving force for global economic and industrial upgrading. The Chinese government has introduced a number of strategic policies to promote the development of new generation artificial intelligence and has made significant progress, but there are still large differences in the research and development, application and industrialization of AI technology in different regions. To this end, this research sorted out the definition of new generation artificial intelligence and established a comprehensive evaluation index system including four dimensions: development scale, economic benefits, innovation input and scientific and technological output. Based on panel data from 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, the entropy method was used to analyze the development level of new generation artificial intelligence in various regions from 2017 to 2021. The results show that the overall development level of China's new generation of artificial intelligence shows a steady growth trend. The development of AI in the eastern region leads the country, while the development level of AI in the central, western and northeastern regions is relatively low, and the gap is widening year by year.
