Based on the Affective Filter Hypothesis and Freud’s Anxiety Theory, this paper conducts a quantitative and qualitative study on writing anxiety among English major undergraduates. Questionnaire surveys and data analysis reveal that somatic anxiety, cognitive anxiety, strategic anxiety, and avoidance behavior are all contributing factors to writing anxiety, with somatic anxiety being particularly prominent. In response to these issues, this study proposes targeted interventions for each type of anxiety, aiming to help students improve their writing proficiency and provide practical references for English writing instruction.
