Antithrombotic Agent Use at Time of Renal Transplant is Associated with Increased Blood Transfusions and Wound Infections
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Purpose: Patients waitlisted for renal transplant frequently have co-morbid cardiac and vascular disease for which they are maintained on antithrombotic agents. In the elective setting these medications can be held in preparation for surgery, however timing of renal transplant surgery is less predictable. As such, many centers mandate cessation or modification of antithrombotic medications prior to transplant. However, the risk of adverse outcomes in this patient population has not been well studied.
