Oral Tributyrate Promotes Treg-Mediated Immune Modulation and Prolongs Allograft Survival in Murine Transplant Models
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Purpose: The gut microbiota plays a critical role in immune tolerance, partly through the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) like butyrate, which promotes regulatory T cell (Treg) induction and suppresses inflammation. However, due to poor systemic bioavailability, butyrate’s effects are largely restricted to the gut. Tributyrin (Trib), a prodrug of butyrate, enhances its absorption and extends its immunomodulatory potential systemically. This study investigates whether oral Trib modulates immune responses and improves graft survival in murine transplant models.
