Survival Benefit of Liver Transplantation in the Modern Era Across All MELD Categories
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Purpose: A MELD of 15 has historically been considered the threshold for transplantation, based on a calculated survival benefit. We hypothesize that the traditional MELD threshold of 15 for liver transplantation no longer accurately reflects the survival benefit in the modern era due to improved post-transplant outcomes and donor availability. This study aims to assess the optimal MELD threshold for survival benefit of liver transplantation in the modern era.
