Assessment of Potential Kidney Donors for Future Risk of Diabetes Using Validated Indices Derived from Oral Glucose Tolerance Test

Abstract: Purpose: Traditional screening methods—including glycated hemoglobin (A1C), impaired fasting glucose (IFG), and oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT)—have served as screening for risks of diabetes. Emerging biomarkers, a one-hour blood glucose (BG) >155 mg/dL and a disposition index (DI) <3.1, a composite marker reflecting both insulin sensitivity and beta-cell function, have demonstrated superior predictors of future type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). We aimed to evaluate the prevalence of potential living kidney donors at increased risk for DM2 using traditional and emerging methods.
