Clostridioides difficile Infection Management Optimization in Solid Organ Transplant Recipients
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Purpose: Fidaxomicin (FM) is the preferred therapy for initial and subsequent Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) episodes due to its potential to reduce recurrence rates compared to vancomycin (VM). In December 2023, a solid organ transplant (SOT) CDI treatment/prophylaxis guideline was developed. The guidance recommends extended-pulsed FM for mild/moderate cases, standard FM for severe non-fulminant cases, and VM prophylaxis for patients receiving antibiotics with a CDI episode in the past 6 months without fecal microbiota transplant (FMT).
