Is Delayed Graft Function in Renal Transplantation Surgeon Driven
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Purpose: Delayed graft function (DGF) in kidney transplantation is associated with poorer long-term graft survival. It is due to the combined impact of reversible and irreversible hypoxia-driven ischaemic injury in the process of dying, preservation and subsequent revascularisation. Modifiable factors in these periods include the method of preservation, cold ischaemic time and anastomotic time-related warm ischaemia. This audit aims to assess the impact of modifiable and non-modifiable donor, recipient and surgeon factors in the development of DGF in static cold-preserved organs.
