Prospective Living Kidney Donors’ Motivations to Donate by Relation to Intended Recipient
Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Purpose: The National Kidney Registry’s Donor Automated Screening & History platform can be used by prospective donors (PD) to determine if they are preliminarily qualified to donate before completing a full, in-person medical evaluation. In addition to over 100 medical questions, the platform includes an open-ended question asking PDs to describe their motivation to donate. This rich set of qualitative data has not previously been studied. We sought to classify and assess the prevalence of distinct motivations to donate by the PD’s relationship to the intended recipient.
