Surface Modification of Islets with Bissulfosuccinimidyl Suberate (BS3) Dampens Inflammation
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Purpose: Nanoencapsulation or modification of the islet’s surface using bio-active crosslinkers is a promising technique to cloak cell features that trigger inflammatory responses. Bissulfosuccinimidyl suberate (BS3) is a homobifunctional crosslinker with NHS esters on both ends that interacts with amine groups on the surface of the islets to form covalent bonds. The effects of BS3-modified human islets on viability, function, modification longevity, and anti-inflammatory properties have been evaluated.
