Innovations in computer architecture: Bridging hardware efficiency with software performance
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper examines recent innovations in computer architecture that aim to bridge the traditional gap between hardware efficiency and software performance. As computing demands escalate in areas such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and edge computing, the need for architectures that optimize both energy efficiency and computational throughput has become critical. The study reviews advancements in heterogeneous computing, domain-specific architectures (e.g., GPUs, TPUs), chiplet designs, and memory hierarchies that enable more dynamic and adaptive processing environments. Additionally, it explores the growing role of software-aware hardware design and hardware-software co-optimization strategies that align system architecture with application needs. Through case studies and performance benchmarks, the paper highlights how these innovations contribute to faster, more efficient, and scalable computing systems. The findings advocate for an integrated design philosophy that harmonizes hardware capabilities with software demands, ultimately pushing the boundaries of modern computing performance.
