Improving the corrosion resistance of oil drilling pipelines and metal structures

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Azerbaijan's modern oil and gas industry is among the most important and strategically significant sectors of its economy.Due to the rapid development of this sector, Azerbaijan has strengthened its position in the global energy market. The oil and gas industry contributes not only to economic growth but also plays a vital role in the country's social and political development.Today, Azerbaijan is one of the major exporters of oil and gas to world markets.Although various logistical means are used to deliver hydrocarbons, pipeline systems remain the primary and preferred method.Pipelines play a crucial role in transporting hydrocarbons produced in different regions of the country to global markets, ensuring both ecological and industrial safety. However, corrosion remains one of the main causes of failures in oil field equipment and facilities during extraction, refining, and transportation processes. The intensification of corrosion processes in metal-based oil drilling equipment, including pipelines, installations, and metal structures, reduces environmental and industrial safety.Corrosion has a significant economic and ecological impact worldwide, causing annual losses estimated at 3-4% of national income in developed countries, with up to 10% of metal products completely destroyed. This article presents the development and application results of nano-based poly-bitumen coating materials designed to prevent corrosion in metal oil drilling equipment, pipelines, installations, and other metal structures
