Abstract: In pharmaceutical research, Drug repurposing, sometimes referred to as drug repositioning, is a strategic approach that finds novel therapeutic applications for already approved medications. The time, expense, and risk involved in traditional drug development are greatly decreased by using compounds that have already undergone thorough safety and pharmacokinetic analyses. Due to its potential to address unmet medical needs, particularly in rare, neglected, and emerging diseases, repurposing has gained momentum. Big data analytics, artificial intelligence, and computational biology advancements have made it possible to screen drug libraries systematically in order to find new indications. Drug repurposing has potential, but it also has drawbacks, including restrictions on intellectual property, legal restrictions, and the requirement for thorough clinical validation. However, it continues to be an effective tool for increasing therapeutic options and speeding up drug discovery
