Abstract: We describe the phenomenon of candy speech -positive emotional speech in online communication -and introduce a categorization of its various types based on the theoretical framework of social interaction by Goffman (1967).We provide a dataset of 46,286 German YouTube comments manually annotated with candy speech types; 14,580 comments in this data contain a total of 21,785 candy speech expressions.We discuss issues in the annotation and evaluation of such higher-level semantic properties of text.
