Abstract: In this issue of Nanophotonics, Atlas finally gets a promotion: from holding the heavens to hoisting a glowing Earth brimming with photonic and plasmonic treasures. But this isn’t your mythological muscleman: our modern Atlas rocks a lab coat and a PhD, bearing the weight of cutting-edge materials science. As an energetic electron beam strikes the globe’s, it ignites a vibrant rainbow—a nod to the spectrally rich wonders revealed through cathodoluminescence. Scattered across the continents are gems, honeycomb lattices, and gold bars, representing the diverse materials in the CL atlas. Even myth needs a little microscopy.
