Green synthesis and characterization of some metal and metal oxides nanoparticles with biomedical application using Psidium guajava leaf extracts

Type: article
Abstract: A sustainable substitute for conventional chemical methods for nanomaterial synthesis is the creation of nanoparticles (NPs) using green synthesis. In this work, Nanoparticles were synthesized by reacting soluble salts of the metals and aqueous leaf extracts of Psidium guajava. The size distribution of the synthesized nanoparticles, and their functional groups were characterized using dynamic light scattering (DLS), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FITR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The produced nanoparticles' size ranged from 64.6 to 101.5 nm according to the DLS study, indicating a regulated and size-tunable production process. The FTIR data clearly showed the presence of significant absorption bands such as the aromatic -OH (alcohol) Stretch and the -COOH Stretch of carboxylic acid. While ZnO NP, Fe2O3, NP and Ag2O NP had greater SEM sizes than size values from DLS. ZrO2 NP and SnO2 NP SEM sizes matched DLS values, suggesting less aggregation. This study uses Psidium guajava leaf extract to show that green synthesis is feasible for creating size-controlled metal and non-metal oxide nanoparticles.
