Year: 2025

Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: The present study aimed to gather additional validity evidences for the Short Almost Perfect Scale (S-APS) in a sample of university students. 517 students from different Brazilian states participated (Mage = 21.38; ranging from 18 to 52 years). Most were women (63.2%), from public institutions (64.2%), and psychology undergraduates (25.8%). The instruments applied were: S-APS, Single-Item Self-Esteem Scale, Cognitive Test Anxiety Scale, Tuckman Procrastination Scale, and a sociodemographic questionnaire. The results, through confirmatory factor analysis, supported the bifactorial structure of the S-APS. Evidences of convergent, discriminant, and external meansure-related validity was found. Adaptive perfectionism (standards) was positively related to self-esteem and negatively related to cognitive test anxiety and academic procrastination. Maladaptive perfectionism (discrepancy) was negatively related to self-esteem and positively related to cognitive test anxiety and academic procrastination. It was concluded that the S-APS shows good psychometric properties and can be useful for assessing perfectionism and its correlates among Brazilian university students.
