Abstract: The purpose of this study is to identify the maxim violations of the cooperation principles Grice in the Nutcracker and Mouse King by E.T.A. Hoffmann. This study used a descriptive qualitative research method with a pragmatic approach. The research data was obtained from the technique of reading, note-taking and qualitative content analysis. The results of this study show that in the object there are various violations of the principle of cooperation consists of four maxims: quality (5), quantity (15), relevance (11) and manners (9). The total of all maxim violations of the cooperation principle is (50).
