Year: 2025
Type: review
Abstract: Purpose: Women’s entrepreneurship has emerged as a powerful catalyst for economic growth, innovation, and social transformation. This paper presents a comprehensive literature review of studies published between 2020 and 2025, examining key variables, dominant theoretical frameworks, and methodological approaches. Findings: Indicate growing scholarly attention to socio-cultural factors, psychological traits, institutional dynamics, and the accelerating influence of digital transformation on women-led ventures. The roles of digital finance, micro-level socio-cultural drivers, and gender stereotypes in shaping entrepreneurial performance are highlighted. Mixed-methods research is increasingly utilized to capture the multidimensionality of women’s entrepreneurial experiences. Implications: Despite these advancements, critical research gaps persist, particularly concerning the long-term effects of digital ecosystems, intersectional challenges, and the real-world efficacy of policy interventions, green knowledge, innovation, social commerce adoption, and institutional factors. By synthesizing prevailing themes and identifying future research directions, this review offers valuable insights for academics, policymakers, and practitioners aiming to foster inclusive, technology-driven, and sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystems. Highlights • Comprehensive review of women’s entrepreneurship (2020–2025). • Focus on digital transformation and crisis resilience. • Critical evaluation of socio-cultural and institutional factors. • Proposes a forward-looking research agenda for global ecosystems. • Practical insights for policy and entrepreneurial support systems.
