Abstract: The theory of cultural diffusion throughout the world from the Fertile Crescent has been definitively abandoned when numerous civilizations turned out to be older than their supposed Middle Eastern models. Unfortunately, it has not been replaced by any new theory capable of explaining the simultaneous rise in various parts of the world, after the end of the Pleistocene, of civilizations with extraordinarily similar contents, apparently without any mutual contact.
