Abstract: This article begins with the question raised by Lisa Shapiro regarding the writing of the canon of the history of modern philosophy. It then evaluates Leibniz's place in this narrative. To this end, the work primarily considers Gilles Deleuze's reflections on Leibnizian philosophy, which reveal the existence, in Leibniz, of a conceptual framework distinct from what is typically associated with his position in the commonly told history of modern philosophy. The conclusion indicates how recovering this other Leibniz, with different problems and solutions, can, in the sense of Walter Benjamin's historical materialism, open both the past and the present of philosophy to the construction of a new history.
