Abstract: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is often referred to as a silent epidemic due to it being a major contributor of global mortality and disability. Prolonged length of stay in traumatic brain injury case may introduce dire medicoeconomic burden for both patients and the caring hospitals. No related research has been done in North Maluku. To identify the correlation between Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and length of stay (LOS) of adult traumatic brain injury patients in North Maluku. This retrospective analytical study utilized hospital medical record of adult traumatic brain injury patients registered in RSUD Dr. H. Chasan Boesoirie, Ternate from January─June 2021. Information regarding age, sex, on-admission Glasgow Coma Scale, main pathology, management option (medical/surgical), in-hospital mortality, and length of stay were obtained and analyzed using uni- and multivariable approaches. From 87 patients that were registered during the study period, 64 patients were included in the analysis, with their mean age + SD (33 ± 15.3), mostly male (59.4%), diagnosed with mild TBI (84.4%), admitted with EDH (4.7%), managed conservatively (92,2%), mean LOS + SD (3.67 ± 3.47), and (1.6%) died in the hospital. Spearman test indicate strong negative correlation test between GCS and LOS (ß = -0.520, p <0.001). Multivariable regression analysis identified GCS as significantly associated with LOS (β=-0,430, 95%CI: [-0,758] – [-0,103]). In this study, GCS has been noted to be significantly and independently associated with LOS compared to other factors.
