Phantom Breast Syndrome: Clinical Implications for Oncology Nursing

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Advances in breast cancer treatment have significantly improved breast cancer survival rates, but many women, particularly younger women, still face challenges postsurgery (Hasan et al., 2023). Phantom breast syndrome (PBS) occurs when women experience persistent sensations in the breast area following mastectomy. PBS ranges from nonpainful sensations to painful, distressing conditions, often progressing from localized nipple sensations to the entire breast (Fakhari et al., 2018).
