Type: article
Abstract: The Muyu tribe is one of the tribes located in Papua. The Muyu tribe is known for its resilience in surviving. However, the community has limited access to economic, educational, and health services. This study aims to identify the social and economic conditions of the Muyu tribe. Thus, this study can explore community empowerment through socioeconomic mapping using human resource management. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive case study method. The research location is in Boven Digoel Regency, Papua. Participants in this study were selected through purposive sampling. Data collection techniques were conducted through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. In-depth interviews were conducted over two months with six meetings. Data analysis was conducted by matching empirical patterns based on human resource management theory, constructing a narrative explanation of the case by analyzing the data, analyzing changes in the phenomenon in the case, developing a logical model, and comparing findings from several cases to identify common patterns. The results of this study indicate that the Muyu community has a strong kinship system that supports open information exchange and socialization. However, economically, market competition is dominated by outsiders because the Muyu community tends to sell similar commodities in limited quantities without trading skills. Additionally, a mindset of equality and suspicion towards individual success hinders economic innovation. This study concludes that the role of HRM is needed in empowering the Muyu community. Therefore, HRM should be integrated with the role of traditional leaders to foster more open community behavior and reduce jealousy.
