Determination of the applicability of the normal and Weibull distributions to the diameter of welded pores

Abstract: The adequacy of the application of the normal and Weibull distributions to the variability of weld pore diameters is analyzed. It is shown that, despite the visual similarity of the Weibull distribution to the visualization of the experimentally obtained distribution of pore diameter values, according to the Pearson agreement criterion, the normal distribution describes the variability of pore diameter values six times better than the Weibull distribution. The obtained results provide grounds for the direct application of standardized statistical tools to the statistical analysis of the variability of weld pore diameter.
