Children's Science Fiction with Islamic and Local Cultural Values: A Futurological Educational Narrative for Language and STEM Literacy in the Disruption Era
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: This study explores the integration of Islamic and local wisdom-based children's science fiction narratives as an educational strategy to cultivate futures literacy, ethical awareness of technology, and ecological understanding through a speculative design approach. The folk tale Radhin Saghârâ from Madura serves as the primary data source, analyzed using educational narrative theory, zoonarratology, futures studies, and ecocritical approaches. The findings reveal that children's science fiction rooted in religious and local cultural values can function as a transformative literacy medium, combining cognitive, affective, and spiritual dimensions. The narratives facilitate critical understanding of global issues such as artificial intelligence, environmental crises, and technological ethics through imaginative character representations and speculative scenarios. Moreover, characters like Radhin Saghârâ and Patih Pranggulang serve as moral educators who guide children in developing a reflective and contextually grounded future consciousness. This study recommends the development of localized children's science fiction as an innovative approach to equitable, spiritual, and sustainable future literacy education.
