Abstract: The continuous increase in the number of diesel vehicles has resulted in a substantial increase in the emission of pollutants (such as hydrocarbons) into the atmosphere, which have deleterious effects on the environment and human health. Diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) represents a pivotal exhaust gas purification technology, being capable of converting hydrocarbons (HCs) into relatively innocuous CO2 and H2O. However, in practical applications, the low activity of DOC under low-temperature conditions leads to unsatisfactory pollutant conversion, and this problem has been a key factor restricting its efficient exhaust purification. Consequently, improving the low-temperature activity of DOC has become an important issue to be solved in the field of exhaust purification. In addressing these challenges, this study proposes an electrically powered programmed oxidation (EPPO) strategy over conductive LaMn(Co)O3 as catalysts for the combustion of propane (C3H8, a prominent hydrocarbon). The LaMnO3 catalyst was utilized to achieve a C3H8 conversion of 90% (T 90) at 252 °C, which is 111 °C lower than that of the conventional thermal catalytic method. This results in an energy saving of more than 88%, illustrating that the electrochemical catalytic oxidation strategy provides a novel and energy-efficient solution to the problem of insufficient catalytic activity of DOC at low temperatures.
