Year: 2025

Abstract: Introduction: Community psychiatry provides treatment to local people. It can take various organizational forms, such as community mental health centers providing multiple interventions, including outpatient visits, remote counseling, and home support, to reach patients in their environment and enable them to function in social roles. The study aimed to analyze the functioning of the Community Mental Health Center in Warsaw and to describe the patient population. Material and methods: The study used data retrospectively from the entire patient population of the community mental health center (2018–2021). The patients’ well-being was examined with the mental health continuum-short form. Results: Most patients were women (1,350) compared to men (668). They received on average 14 interventions. Most of the patients were residents of the community center area, had a higher level of education (38.9%), and about half of them were professionally active (50.6%). In the largest group, patients suffered from neurotic, stress-related, and somatoform disorders (n = 508). The most frequently received form of support was a consultation with a psychologist. 79% of patients received at least one intervention of this type. Conclusions: The Community Mental Health Center program provided a variety of supports, including therapeutic, diagnostic, and social, to patients with a wide range of demographic characteristics and mental health difficulties. The smaller number of men using support indicates the value of promoting men's search for mental support, as one of the tasks consistent with the principles of community psychiatry. CMHC implemented the assumptions of flexible and integrative treatment.
