Digital Integrations in the Construction of Nuclear Energy Facilities

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Digitalization is radically transforming the approaches to the design and construction of nuclear energy facilities. The integration of modern information technologies – from BIM modeling to digital twins, IoT sensors, artificial intelligence (AI), and big data analytics – enables enhanced project efficiency, reduced costs and risks, and improved environmental sustainability across the sector. The development of nuclear energy demands not only high standards of safety and technological excellence but also the continuous implementation of innovative solutions that improve the effectiveness of design, construction, and operational processes. Amid the rapid advancement of digital technologies, the nuclear energy sector faces the urgent need for large-scale digital transformation. In particular, the construction of nuclear facilities is a complex, multi-tiered process that requires close coordination between numerous stakeholders, strict compliance with regulatory requirements, and precision at every stage. In this context, digital integrations become particularly significant as tools for enhancing process transparency and control. The objective of this study is to analyze the role of digital integrations in the construction of nuclear energy facilities, to identify their potential for increasing efficiency and reliability, and to explore current approaches and technologies in the digital transformation of the nuclear construction sector. The relevance of the topic lies in the fact that the construction of nuclear power plants is an extremely resource-intensive and time-consuming process, accompanied by high risks and stringent demands for quality and deadlines. Thus, digital integrations serve not only as technological tools but also as strategic drivers for the development of nuclear energy, ensuring a new level of control, safety, and resilience in the implementation of highly complex engineering projects.
