Using chimney vents for daylight

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: There are many historical buildings in the world, many are used but unfortunately many have no use. These buildings are decaying and are in a state of disrepair. The management and maintenance of buildings is necessary and essential for the preservation of the monument as a building object - for the preservation of the architecture of a given period of construction. In Slovakia, many ruins began to be saved and restored with the help of volunteers who were not indifferent to their fate. One of the many ruins is Vinné Castle. This castle was selected for research as one of the many castles that have been partially restored. There are several castles with chimney bodies. All the heating elements were connected to the nearest chimney. Many times the chimney vents are not used. The possibility of using them is possible to improve and enhance the indoor environment. The paper deals with the possible use of chimney vents for the supply of light to the interior. The use of chimney vents by inserting highly polished pipes makes it possible to bring daylight into the interior of historic buildings in the form of a light conduit without the need for electricity.
