Abstract: The research investigated the development of literary readers in the 2nd year of elementary school, at a school in Curitiba (Brazil). The aim was to study the effects of reading mediation and the interaction of students with children's works by the Curitiba-born author Josiane Bibas. In theoretical terms, the study is based on Feuerstein's Mediated Learning Experience theory, Poslaniec's Reading Animations and Girotto and Souza's Reading Strategies. In this way, the implemented literary reading mediation practices contributed to a greater awareness of students' thinking skills, especially with regard to the development of textual comprehension.
