Electric and Dielectric Properties of Cotton and Regenerated Cellulose Fibers in Comparison with Polyethylene Terephthalate Fiber
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The objective of this study is to look into the dielectric and ac-conductivity characteristics of Egyptian cotton and some regenerated cellulose fibers, i,e. viscose, bamboo, tencel, and modal fibers in comparison with PET fibers. The longitudinal views of the textile fibers and their dimensions were first presented. The attributes of Egyptian cotton were also listed. The dielectric characteristics of the textile fibers in terms of their dielectric permittivity, dielectric loss, and tangent have been investigated and compared. The electric properties such as real and imaginary electric modulus, Nyquist plot, and real and imaginary conductivity of these textile fibers were also measured and compared. Due to the differences in chemical structures and moisture regain of the textile fibers under study, their electric and dielectric characteristics were significantly varied. Dielectric permittivity, dielectric loss, and loss tangent were all reduced significantly with the frequency for all textile fibers. The real part of the electric modulus was increased for all textile fibers with frequency. In this regard, all textile fibers reach a plateau after a frequency of about 100 Hz. That the highest strength of molecular dynamics with applying the electric field is associated with the modal fibers followed by polyester, cotton, tencel, and bamboo textile fibers, respectively.
