Abstract: This study investigates the bond between companion dogs and the well-being of older adults, addressing the lack of understanding regarding the significance and nature of this relationship. The theoretical framework integrates concepts from co-constitution, coevolution, biophilia, and systems theory. A qualitative methodology was adopted, involving four case studies (two male and two female older adults from Colima, Mexico) with data collected through semi-structured interviews. Findings highlight the role of family traditions in pet ownership, the interaction with dogs as family members, and the resulting reciprocal well-being environment influenced by the strength of the human-dog bond.
