Changes in Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) in patients with low-grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesions after Coriolus versicolor vaginal gel intervention

Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Clinical Trial
Abstract: The aim of this study was to assess changes in NLR during intervention with Coriolus versicolor vaginal gel in patients with low-grade cervical precancerous lesions and to identify factors that influence the systemic inflammatory response. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group repeated measures design, using a within-subject approach in 20 patients with low-grade cervical precancerous lesions who were controlled at the Gynecology Oncology Polyclinic of Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Bandung between July 2024 and April 2025. NLR was measured before the intervention, after 3 months of intervention, and at the end of the intervention period. Statistical analysis used RM ANOVA. The results showed a significant decrease in NLR from the first examination (2.315 ± 0.81) to the second examination (1.929 ± 0.82) with p = 0.018. However, the difference between the second and third examinations was not significant. Subgroups based on HPV status showed that HPV-positive patients experienced a significant decrease (p=0.048), while HPV-negative patients showed no significant change (p=0.741). Patients with an initial NLR >1.95 showed a significant decrease (p=0.035). NLR can be an additional biomarker in monitoring precancerous cervical lesions, but cannot be used alone because it is influenced by other systemic conditions.
