Study on the performance of fiber-reinforced red mud- phosphogypsum-based composite materials
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Currently, low utilization of red mud and phosphogypsum causes serious stockpiling. Incorporating fibers improves the poor mechanical properties of RM-P-based composites for building material use. Using fiber type, length, and dosage as variables, we analyzed mechanical and microstructural changes. Results show that at 1.2% dosage, 12 mm BF, 18 mm PF, and 18 mm GF work best. PF boosts compressive strength by 37.12%, while BF increases flexural strength by 208.29%. Fibers transform pore structure, reduce defects, with GF being most effective. Bonding between fibers and matrix correlates with microcrack inhibition; BF excels here. Improved RM-P-based composites can replace cement concrete, enhancing resource use and benefiting the environment.
