Can Simulation-Based Training Address the Challenges of Residents’ Training in Cardiology? A Combination of a Survey and a Literature Review
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Simulation has become an essential pedagogical tool in medical training, providing a safe environment for acquiring and refining clinical skills. Our study explores the impact of simulation in the training of cardiology residents by combining a literature review and a survey of cardiology residents regarding the obstacles in their learning. Articles published between 2014 and 2024 were selected based on specific criteria, and a survey with a 16-question questionnaire was conducted. The results show that simulation significantly improves the technical and non-technical skills of cardiology residents, while also increasing their confidence and reducing medical errors. However, limitations such as the high cost and lack of realism of simulators were identified. Despite a generally positive satisfaction with the quality of their training, residents reported obstacles such as the absence of structured programs and lack of supervision. The conclusion emphasizes that simulation offers unique opportunities to improve skills and patient safety, but it is necessary to enhance simulation technologies, increase methodological rigor, and standardize evaluation tools to fully benefit from it.
