Feasibility Study: Open-Source E-Learning Platforms Moodle vs eFront in Academic and Enterprise Contexts
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This paper conducts an in-depth feasibility study of two prominent open-source Learning Management Systems (LMS) Moodle and eFront - evaluating their suitability for academic and enterprise contexts. The study evaluates technical features, usability, scalability, security, cost, support, and extensibility. It includes tabular comparisons, a decision matrix with weighted scoring for academic vs enterprise priorities, and recommended deployment approaches. A decision matrix assigns numerical weights to each evaluation criterion for academic and enterprise environments, providing an objective, data-driven recommendation. Findings indicate Moodle’s dominance in academic contexts due to its pedagogical flexibility and global community, while eFront offers stronger out-of-the-box support for corporate compliance, reporting, and multi-tenant deployments.
