Abstract: Background and aim: This case series aims to evaluate the effectiveness of fiberoptic flexible bronchoscopy for esophageal foreign body retrieval in children, showcasing its advantages in resource-limited settings. Technique: Two cases are presented: A three-month-old infant who ingested a metallic locket, and a six-year-old child with cerebral palsy who swallowed an earring. Both foreign bodies were successfully extracted using a fiberoptic bronchoscope, with rat tooth forceps in the first case and a Dormia basket in the second. Conclusion: Fiberoptic bronchoscopy proved to be a safe and effective method of esophageal foreign body removal in young infants and in the absence of a gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy setup. Clinical significance: This technique offers a viable alternative to upper GI endoscopy for pediatric foreign body extraction, especially in resource-limited settings, enhancing patient outcomes and procedural safety.
