Abstract: Psychiatric disease and its medical treatment can cause challenges regarding road safety. Several studies explored the subject, but the evidence is inconsistent. In this review, a systematic literature search was conducted to assess psychotropics and their driving impairment. The available evidence suggests that antidepressants with affinity for the H1-receptor, benzodiazepines, and first-generation antipsychotics impair driving ability. Patients possibly benefit from treatment with antidepressants concerning driving skills. However, due to inconsistent designs, more studies are needed.
