RePo4EU Live: Enabling Collaborative Drug Repurposing Through Guided Use Cases

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: One of REPO4EU’s key objectives is to build a sustainable, user-centric, industry-level platform certified to ISO 15408, supporting collaborative and translational drug repurposing across disciplines and all relevant stakeholders. To reduce the risk and – from a patient’s benefit perspective – increase the precision of drug repurposing, a systems medicine suite of software and workflows is included along with ethics-by-design, predictive pre-clinical model suggestions, tools for clinical trial design and guidance for intellectual property protection and business development strategies. All services are to be free, except a members-only section for use of those features and databases that are not open access and incur use-dependent costs. Listening to international stakeholders and carefully refining their requirements, we shape their input into clear workflows and designs, building the platform step by step. Here, we present the first alpha version examples of how the platform facilitates real-world decision-making through guided, interactive use cases that investigate “choke points” along the development path. This is achieved through structured navigation, decision-support trees, and curated, up-to-date knowledge tailored to the diverse needs of drug repurposing stakeholders, as well as recommendations from RePo4EU. Through a series of practical scenarios, we show how users can engage with the platform to identify suitable trial designs or navigate early discovery challenges—backed by expert-curated content and interoperable resources. A key innovation beyond the original plan is an AI layer, enabled by recent breakthroughs in large-language models, that permeates the platform by design and acts as a robust backbone, ensuring dynamic personalization across all modules and offering context-aware guidance, intelligent matchmaking, and decision support. By connecting with ScienceOpen’s Drug Repurposing Central, the platform provides a one-stop access to all relevant research and industry knowledge. Training modules are collaborative and user-driven, covering both platform use and drug repurposing topics, and are continuously refined through feedback and updated as necessary. With the 2026 beta and 2027 first full release version, the RePo4EU platform will become a living ecosystem that supports reproducibility, transparency, and cross-disciplinary alignment in drug repurposing.
